Hive Quest - game dev log June 19


Hi everyone

A big part of Hive Quest game play involves competing with other hives deep within the woods. There are several ways this works - right now I'm working on the following methods for achieving victory over any enemy hives that stand in your way.

The night time pic above is a shot of a 'gene beacon'. Players can create them from pebbles & other stuff lying around with the aid of a Beacon Spell (the pink sphere - a magical ball the player's pet can conjure). Every time an enemy drone passes near your beacon you increase your influence over that drone's hive

The other pic below is a 'zealot' - you can use him as a spy to infiltrate an enemy hive and change its allegiance to favour yours. Be careful not to create too many though - as they'll get found out and killed by bugs from the enemy hive!

This competition between hives is something I have wanted to continue working on for a while. I set up the basic framework for this around a year ago and, now the demo is out, I will be pushing these game mechanics forward with an eye to completing the first game level The Old Orchard
